We mostly build buildings, buy clothing, plan our work and leisure activities on the assumption of living in a particular climate. This is no longer certain. Increasingly things will need to be designed for rapid adaptation and change. Future patterns of climate change and their consequences are now being studied by research organisations and governments, but the design implications have barely been grasped. There is a need to monitor the research that is going on, develop a sense of the political and cultural implications of climate change and develop imaginative and appropriate design concepts and scenarios.

For enquiries about Design for the Coming Climate, please contact Team D|E|S who are continuing research in this area.
